DIGESTIVE SYSTEM

The non-invasive breath test helps diagnose intolerance or malabsorption of various sugars, such as lactose and fructose. It involves the oral administration of the appropriate substrate and the measurement of H₂ and CH₄ levels in exhaled air. The approximate duration of the test is 3 hours from the administration of the sugar.

The breath test is also performed to determine the presence of small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.

The C-13 urea breath test (UBTest®) is used to diagnose the presence of Helicobacter pylori in the stomach.
